Our Story

This school is an extension of Old Mountain Abbey, an Anglican church in Murphy, NC.

With spiritual and American greats like John Wesley, George Whitfield, C.S. Lewis, George Washington, Patrick Henry and N.T. Wright, Old Mountain Abbey finds the ancient traditions of Anglicanism beautiful.

An extension of the Anglican Church in North America, Old Mountain Abbey's prayer and conviction is to, like other churches in the area, meet the physical and spiritual needs of this area.

Our founder, Ami Burr, is a member of Old Mountain Abbey. She was home schooled and taught her children at home, too. While educating six children, Ami always longed for more support.

As well, she wished for a beautiful scope and sequence of academia that measured success

by a student's diligence rather than their test scores.

As the vision Old Mountain Academy developed, Pastor Jimmy Tanner offered First Baptist Murphy as home base for the school. The longstanding vision of FBM to support an area Christian school has afforded Old Mountain Academy to open its doors the fall of 2027.

Old Mountain Academy is the reality of a dream from multiple mother’s hearts for a school that supports children and families on their home education journey in the Murphy, NC area and for the rest of their lives.
